As New Haiti Secrétaire D'état à la Sécurité, Mr. Reginald Delva is accountable to no one

This is the job that I would like to have when I grow up, one where I am not responsible for anything or accountable to no one. That is the case for the position of Secrétaire D'état la Sécurité in Haiti which Mr. Reginald Delva is currently heading.

For the past few months, the level of crime in the Haitian population has been increasing at an alarming rate and as far as I ma concerned, it is unacceptable.

How does the authority responsible to protect the population responds? With the usual excuses.

According to the government, this increase in instability and crime in the country is because it is the end of the year and the criminals are out. The government seems to know exactly why there has been an increase in crime, and also was ready to share the information with the population.

This actually reminds me of the old days in Haiti when the government was always in the process of planning "Something". Do you remember my friend Maurice Sixto in "Leya Cocoye" when the Minister was telling Leya to wait for the "Grand Demarage". This sounds so much like it, Innocent Haitians are being victimized every day by bandits, in the meantime, the Secrétaire D'état la Sécurité, Mr. Reginald Delva is talking about what caused the problem and detailing the various aspects of his job.

Am I the only one very upset at our Haitian government for demonstrating any capacity to protect us?

In any other country, this alone could have been good of a reason enough to kick the government out. But again, this is Haiti.

QUESTIONS:

How would you rate the way in which the Haitian government has been able to protect the population so far against criminal acts; namely: kidnapping, assassination, rape?

Do you think the government is capable of doing better?

Would you agree if everyone in Haiti starts carrying firearms for self protection?
