The almost squalid conditions of the market in which merchants at the Village Solidarité marketplace could not be blamed solely or even mostly on the destruction caused by the earthquake in 2010, for the conditions had been an ongoing part of the lives of the sellers there for quite some time. The approximately 200 merchants at the market in the Simmonds-Pelé community spent the last 15 or so years plying their merchandise amongst garbage, dirt and mud, hoping for a change. The change finally came through help from the government, and funding and support from other bodies.

The Dominican Republic officials received a proposal from the Haitian officials that the markets which appear on the Haiti-Dominican border twice every week be cut down to once a week. This information was revealed by Luis Rodriguez on Tuesday July 2, 2013. Luis Rodriguez is the Agriculture Minister of Dominican Republic. The Haiti-Dominican border markets show up on Monday and Friday every week.

The Dominican government on the other had responded by stating that it does not want to trim down the trade relations between the two countries and hence, it will remain the way it is. Luis Rodriguez stated from National Palace that the Haitian government wants to cut the trades to once a week probably because they want to reduce non-payment of taxes.

Boucan-Carré, a district part of the Mirebalais Arrondissement, situates itself within the Centre Department of Haiti. Duffailly, Petite Montagne, and Les Bayes comprise the communes of Boucan-Carré.

Boucan-Carré's terrain is a combination of high mountain peaks and steep hollows. The Boucan-Carré River streams through the center of Chambeau, a small town. Agricultural farmlands dot the area and the charcoal industry is a chief means of employment for many residents.

Many non-government organizations have come forward to help strengthen Boucan-Carré's infrastructure. Since the early 2000's, U.S.-based NGOs, Haiti Outreach Program, Give Haiti Hope, and Partners in Health, have supported infrastructure development and maintenance. One of its projects, a full-service medical facility, has evolved from a local community clinic.

Aquin is a municipality and a medium sized town in Haiti's Sud Department in the Aquin Arrondissement. Aquin is a port, situated on Tiburon Peninsula's southern coast and had around 95,004 inhabitants as per the 2003 census. In 1950 the population was around 1799. 100,000 people inhabit Aquin as per current estimates. Aquin is located within the geographical coordinates of 73° 24 '0 West and 18° 17' 0 north.

It has some of the most amazing beaches and overlooks the Caribbean Sea. A lot of people come here to enjoy bathing in the sun and collect sea shells and coral reefs. The shells get deposited by the tide while it regresses towards the Caribbean Sea.
