Haiti wants Bahamian companies to invest in Haiti

Haiti is recovering gradually from 2010 earth quake. To become more stable Haiti wants to invest with foreign countries like Bahamas. Last year Haiti had $ 100 million foreign investment. This year Haiti hopes to have over $ 400 million foreign investment and if possible reach over $600 million from foreign investment in the year 2013.

The neighboring countries wish to invest with each other. The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation (BCCEC) called up dignitaries from Haiti to a meeting to discuss expectations of the two countries. Gregory Mevs, Haitian ambassador for trade and investment said that Haiti is ready for any investment business.

The Richest families in Haiti

Despite Haiti being the poorest of poor countries, it has a percentage of very rich elite who control the economy and the governance of the country.

In such a difficult social economic environment, the few wealthy families live in a class of their own; tiered, Malibu-style homes above in the hills of Port-au-Prince.

In the 1980's reports show that the upper class in Haiti constituted of 2 percent of the total population. However, the 2 percent controlled about 44 percent of the total national income.

Though the elite percentage is small it has the biggest share of the economy. The top six richest families in Haiti are: Madsen, Brandt, Lacombe, Gardere, Mevs and Bigio.

Clinton Bush Haiti Fund in Support of Bernard Mevs Hospital

Bernard Mevs Hospital is underway to receive a total of $442,100 dollars benefit, courtesy of Clinton Bush Haiti Fund Grant. This funding is aimed at facilitating educational training seminars for medical professionals and practitioners in Haiti. This announcement comes after the Bernard Mevs Hospital received the state-of-art Medical equipment which has eventually transformed it into the sole well equipped medical facility to handle major surgeries and critical trauma victims.

During a visit to the hospital, Bill Frist, a renowned US surgeon and senator, said that there was great need in holding educational seminars which will enable Haitian medical professionals to handle the new equipment with competence. With the State-of-art equipment acting as the center of attraction, there will be an increased number of competent medical professionals from Bernard Mevs Hospitals as well as other high profile hospitals in Haiti.
