National Assembly cancelled after two roll calls

The act continues in Haiti for a National assembly. The national Assembly once again could not take place due to a lack of quorum. After two roll calls, the assembly was 4 deputies short for a quorum. The National Assembly is once again cancelled. We were able to count a total of 17 senators and 55 deputies present.

The session once again returned "continuation", according to the President of the National Assembly, Cholzer Chancy. No new date has been reserved for a new National Assembly.

New date for a National Assembly, Thursday July 14, 2016

If you try and you don't succeed, try again. Once again, a new date has been selected for the National Assembly to decide on the future of Provisional President Jocelerme Privert. The meeting will take place on Thursday, July 14, 2016 which will be exactly one month after the mandate of President Privert expired. This is according to the Vice-President of the National Assembly, Ronald Lareche. The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Cholzer Chancy, for his part said that there were major progress with various issues in term of political accord in the Parliament. Deputy Chancy insisted that before the National Assembly meet again, the lawmakers must find an accord as to whether or not they will keep Jocelerme Privert to continue to head the government or if they will replace him.

National Assembly on continuity status as no decision reached

The National Assembly in Haiti had an all night session last night and as usual, nothing was accomplished. The session finally ended on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 around 4:00AM. The Senators and Deputies were unable to to find an understanding to resolve their current difference. To be more direct, The government was unable to satisfy the demand of some Senators and Deputies to get their votes.

We were informed that a shake-up was required at the level of the ministerial cabinet to solve the current impasse. According to some members interviewed, Senator You Latortue and two others wants to have to more people appointed to ministerial positions before they allow a vote in favor of Jocelerme Privert

June 28, the new date for National Assembly to decide on Privert

A new date has been set aside by Haiti National Assembly to decide on the fate and future of President Jocelerme Privert. The date is Tuesday, June 28, 2016. After several days of negotiation the Haitian lawmakers have finally decide to hold the National Assembly in an attempt to solve the current crisis. We did receive confirmation from the first secretary of the Chamber of Deputies that it will in fact take place. One more important question that is probably on the mind of most people: will it actually take place? Will the actors for a change act like responsible people?

Extraordinary session in Parliament postponed due to lack of quorum

Only 70 Deputies and 16 Senators were present to respond to the request of convocation of the National Assembly in extraordinary session by President Martelly to Senator Simon Dieuseul Desras. Among the Group of 6, only Jean William jeanty was present to participate in the session.

The National Assembly that was delayed due to a lack of attendance by the members had a long agenda. However, the most important items are the ratification of the amendments to the electoral law and ratification of the General Policy of the Prime Minister, Evans Paul.

The Formation Of Haiti's National Assembly

Haiti is run by a government with a bicameral legislature, which is composed of the Upper House (Senate) and the Lower House (Chamber of Deputies). These two houses make up the National Assembly, which is also known as a joint session of Parliament.

Based on the constitution, the National Assembly must be convened for specific reasons and purposes. When the National Assembly sets a meeting, important topics affecting the entire country are touched on. Such meetings are presided over by the Senate president, who is assisted by the president of the Chamber of Deputies. The secretaries of both houses, meanwhile, also serve the same role for the National Assembly.

Launching of work of the new legislative building

Parliament is the heart and bloodline of the Haitian government. The country's current legislature was formed in the early 2000s and is composed of two houses: the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. Meetings via a National Assembly or a joint session are highly essential for both houses to deliberate on different important matters of the State, which is why a proper venue for such meetings is highly essential.

The Palais Législatif, or the current legislative building which caters to the whole parliament, was severely damaged by the 2010 earthquake, forcing members of the parliament to temporarily hold their meetings in a classroom. The legislature has since had to keep up with an old, damaged building to house itself.
