Privert's agendas: Verification Commission and National Dialogue

Daly Valet came out to explain to the public where the government is heading. According the Special Adviser to President Jocelerme Privert, the government has two main objectives. On the one hand, the government wants to open a dialogue with the various political actors and various sectors of civil society for the implementation of the Verification Commission. On the other hand, the government is looking for a national dialogue, with at goal to establish a sustainable social pact of political stability and economic development for Haiti.

Phase II of Inter-Haitian dialogue at El Rancho

The Episcopal Conference of Haiti (CEH) facilitated Phase II of the Inter-Haitian dialogue when President Martelly met with 23 delegates from 48 political parties in mid-February. The discussions revolved around disbanding the Transitional College of the Permanent Electoral Council (CTCEP) and settting up a Provisional Electoral Council (PEC).

Delegates are saying the second round of talks is contentious because Martelly is resistant to the idea of abolishing CTCEP and forming the PEC in its stead. Jantel Joseph of National Consortium of Pro Political Parties argues the consensus reached should not be forced on Martelly. But Bishop Aris of CEH disagrees, saying consensus should be imposed.

Haiti dialogue under the auspices of Episcopal Conference

Haitian President, Michel Martelly, convened a meeting of the legislative and executive branches of the Haitian government to come to terms about their differences in order to improve Haiti's welfare. Haitian political parties were also included in the start of discussions on how to move the Republic of Haiti forward.

Newly appointed Haitian Cardinal, Chibly Langlois, attended the meeting as Pope Francis's envoy. It is the pontiff's mission to focus on the under-represented of Haiti, and Cardinal Langlois will advocate on behalf of them. Civil society representatives and independent observers were also on hand.

MOPOD suddenly by itself as Fanmi lavalas and KID change course

Two major decisions that took place today suddenly made MOPOD realized that it is in a ship by itself that is quickly taking on water. KID is no longer part of MOPOD and Fanmi lavalas has decided to join the Dialogue.

Evans Paul (K-plim) announced this morning that KID is no longer part of MOPOD, stating that a dialogue is the only way to find a solution to the problems in Haiti.

In an other development, Ansyto Félix announced that Fanmi lavalas will take part of the discussion. That was followed by the presence of the coordinator of the party, Doctor Maryse Narcisse on Monday at the dialogue.
