Footballer David Beckham in North Miami to meet the Haitian community

David Beckham, former captain of the England football team and retired footballer, met with former mayor of North Miami, Andre Pierre and Ed Lozama, as well as members of the community in one of the city's well-known parks.
Keeping the visit light and informal, Beckham, known almost as much for his dress sense as his footballing skills, came only in t-shirt, jeans and a baseball cap, happy to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.
Beckham's interest in the area may have something to do with his organization's (The Beckham Group) interest in acquiring a piece of land in Miami-Dade County near the port of Miami. The plan is to build a stadium for his team that could house 25,000 seats. While retired, he's parlayed his career into the ownership of an MLS franchise he holds in partnership with other investors including Lebron James, Miami Heat star and celebrity.
Since the Haitian community in North Miami is the second largest ethnic group in the county, and the only of the top two with an interest in football, Beckham's visit was a strategic move he gave even further reach by not publicizing his visit. Less media at the event gave him more time to mingle with the community members.
