Radio caraibes hit with stones by aggressive PHTK protesters
It appears that PHTK or the Political Party of former President Michel Martelly does no longer believe in Non-violence protest. Their protest last Saturday is definietly a turning point as they erected barricades, burned tires and broke several car windshields during their protest march. As they reached Radio Caraibes FM, the protesters launched some slogans against journalist and radio show host Jean Monard Methelus and threw stones on the building, breaking several windows.
Organized by Fednel Monchery of repons Peyizan and Jude Lajoie, of Platfom Viktwa, the protest was due to the violation of the accord signed to continue with the process of the election.
Jean-Mary Gabriel dies of asthma attack, having forgotten his pump
Jean Mary Gabriel, the one person on Radio Caraibes who has been responsible to bring so much joy in the heart of so many, is no longer with us. He passed away last night following an Asthma attack.
Sources have revealed that the death of Jean-Mary Gabriel could have been avoided. He died by an asthma attack for having "lost" or "forgotten" his pump.
Some of the statements we will never hear again on Radio Caraibes, specially in Matin Caraibes:
"Neg sa Nul"
"Se Mwin Minm Ki Jean-Mary Gabril La"
Interview with Michele Montas on Jean Dominique
Here is the wife of Jean Dominique, Michèle Montas who gave a video interview to Radio Caraibes. She was in her car in in front of Radio Haiti Inter as the assassination took place.
Michèle Montas started working with her husband Jean Dominique in Haiti in the early 1970s.
Several attempts were mad on Radio Haiti-Inter in the 1980s and 1990s. Both Jean Dominique and Michèle Montas Dominique went on exile several times and in April 2000, Jean Dominique was assassinated
The Radio Station Radio Haiti Inter was finally closed for good by Michèle Montas in February 2003 who left the country to live in New York City
Guyler C. Delva no longer working for President Michel Martelly
To the surprise of many, Guyler C. Delva announced that he is no longer an advisor to President Michel Martelly. This announce was made by Mr. Delva himself at the popular Radio show: Ranmasse this Saturday, November 9, 2013.
Does that mean we will no longer have the presence of Guyler C. Delva every cause for the Martelly government?
He stated that he took the decision to leave his position as adviser to the president to give more time to his new work which is to work to defend assassinated journalists under the "SOS Journalist Association.
Prepare for explosion in Ranmasse as Andre Michel will be with Jean Monard Metellus on 10-26-13
What should we expect this Saturday at Radio Caraibes in Port-au-Prince? Let's look at the situation:
On the one hand, the government classified Andre Michel as a fugitive of the law. On the other hand, Andre Michel as he has been doing before, will likely say things that the government of Martelly will not enjoy, specially about the wife and son of president Michel Martelly.
Will there be a representative of the government to defend their position this time or will be in the presence of CIMO or a specialize unit in the Haitian Police force waiting down in in the streets to arrest attorney Andre Michel after Ranmasse show?
Plan to terminate the life of Jean Monard Metellus, Fact or fiction
According to Mr. Jean Renel Sanon, Haiti Justice Minister, the government managed to penetrate and prevent a plan to assassinate the well known radio host Jean Monard METELLUS from materialization.
This is what we have according to Mr. Jean Renel Sanon: There was a meeting held last Thursday to finalize the plan of attack in which two bikers were being paid the sum of ten thousand dollars to conduct the act. This is according to the Ministry of Justice. for the sum of ten thousand dollars($10,000).
To me, the first question is whether or not the amount was in Haitian or US currency. If anything, Jean Monard METELLUS should realize that his life is not worth more than $10,000 if any of us would want to believe that this plan was real and not something that was only real in the imagination of the Justice Minister Jean Renel Sanon and the rest of the Martelly government.
Patrick Moussignac and radio Caraibes at Rue Chavannes
Patrick Moussignac's press career started very early. He has had the opportunity to grow up in the Chavannes Street where the Caribbean Radio is based. Patrick had a deep passion for the radio and during the days of his Classical studies, Patrick Moussignac picked up every chance to attend all the games of radio capital where, during those days, the number of radios were very few. With nostalgia, Patrick remembers all the games that were hosted by Georges Lys Herard Master J of Radio Port-au-Prince, Radio Light's Neil Julien and National Radio of Haiti's Micheline Soukar and Felix Lamy. Patrick pointed out that at one point, Charles Alexandre Abellard, then Director of the NHR, had place standout because he answered all questions in 'the Sunday rally.
The History of Radio Broadcasting in Haiti
Radios are a major part of Haitian Culture. Almost everyone, children, youth, women and men in Haiti listen to radio. Statistics show that over 97 percent of the country's population own a radio set and at least three hundred radio broadcasting stations are operational.
According to Paolo Woods, a renowned photographer, the radio "is always on" in Haiti. It is playing everywhere; in the shops and restaurants. "It is like background sound".
Every influential person in Haiti in need of audience gets space. Catholic nuns and voodoo priests get their share to broadcast religious material.
The history of radios in Haiti is a funny one. Radios arrived in the 1930s and would only tune to one and only one channel. US missionaries donated the very first receivers to the Haitians hoping that they would be faithful listeners of Radio Lumiere.
The power of Radio in the Haitian Society
Haitian radio is the chief means of media communication on the island. Few have income to buy a TV, and those who have sets are subject to unreliable electricity service. Going online to access news coverage is impossible for all but the rich. Not only is newspaper distribution minimal, but 80% of the population are illiterate. The only information source available to everyone is the radio and radio stations are plentiful in Haiti. Reception is widely accessible in virtually every village on the island. Radios cost little to own and run on batteries.
Michel Martelly not on the right track, according to Monsignor Louis Kebreau
Monsignor Louis Kebreau is not satisfied of the socio-economic and political situation in Haiti and has observed a degradation lately.
The Archbishop of Cap-Haitian, said that President Michel Martelly is not on the right track. According to Monsignor Louis Kebreau, this degradation reached such a level, so that the country is like a patient who needs both a good psychoanalyst and a good therapist to help him find his inner balance in order to achieve a new vision for it out of this straitjacket in which it is completely immersed.
