Frank Romain, former mayor of Port-au-Prince

Frank Romain has called for people to work together in an effort to revitalize the struggling nation, a concept closely linked to an effort to allow exiled Haitian citizens, former leaders in particular, to return to their country without fear. His crusade stems from his reported abhorrence of the foreign military occupation of Haiti. He further comments on the guilt he feels when he sees the foreigners and witnesses Haiti's continued lack of the sovereignty, a state he wished to have returned during his political tenure.

During the last race towards Haiti's presidential elections, Frank Romain had made his presidential bid. Having been unsuccessful, he remains active on the sidelines, keeping his voice heard through this call to 'arms'. His non-starter run for the presidency had no doubt been overshadowed by the enormity of past rumors against him. People are not soon to forget the bloody massacre at Aristide's church, ST. Jean Bosco, during September of 1988. The 13 dead individuals and a wounded 80 were publicly blamed by a Minister of Justice, in 1991, on Romain, a stigma which continues to haunt his legacy. It remains to be seen how this tainted history will shape his new ambition.
