What would lead Mayweather to pick the weakest fighter for his retirement fight? It would seem he wants to go out on top, retaining his perfect no-loss record. Is he retiring because he fears he is on the verge of losing his boxing edge? Is age also a consideration? What's certain is Mayweather's $200 million CBS / Showtime contract is ending.
The fight is being held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. And Berto is primed and determined to beat Mayweather. Both fighters have praised the other's boxing skills but at the same time they brag about taking the other out.
Berto has asked follow Haitian, Wyclef Jean, to sing Haiti's national anthem, "La Dessalinienne" before the fight's start. Wyclef besides being Haiti's biggest export in the music industry, also has a foundation, Yele Haiti, which has been helping victims of 2010's earthquake get basic services.
The Mayweather-Berto fight is the perfect occasion to show Haiti in a positive light, with world-renowned Wyclef on hand to add a touch of class.
