Famous People Born In Cavaellon

The oldest man who was also a Cuban economist, Benito Martinez Abrogan and a famous artist from the Caribbean, George Valris were born in this town. However the claim of being the oldest man is being verified by investigators as there seems to be a controversy on the exact date that has been sent by the government of Cuba.

There is no record to prove his birth and life before immigrating to Cuba. It is believed that he was around 120 years old when he died.

All through the year, the weather is quite fair. Cold breezes and cool temperatures prevail in this region throughout the year. There is no airport in Cavaellon. For air travel people have to depend on Les Cayes. There are many hotels at Cavaellon that are budget hotels.

Cavaellon lies within the geographical coordinates 73° 39' 0" West and 18° 18' 0" North. Les Cayes is situated 16 km west, Saint Louis-du-Sud 20 km southeast and Nan Cotie is 12 km north from Cavellon. The distance between the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince and Cavallon is approximately 88 miles.

Occupation And The Effects Of The 2010 Earthquake

The 2010 earthquake affected Cavaellon to some extent. While nearly 100 people got injured, around 25 people lost their lives as per estimates. A medical team was dispatched by NOVA to supply drugs and medication to the people of the town.

Agricultural produce like sugarcane, coffee, bananas and tobacco is grown in Cavaellon town and is well known for industries of products from these agricultural produce.
