U.S. Government Investment In Haiti's Rebuilding And Renewal

Hillary Rodham Clinton, US Secretary made Haiti a priority as part of the foreign policy in 2009. A commitment was made to change in the way United States and Haiti partnered.

Partnership With US

A lot of effort has been put in for more than 3 1/2 years by US to partner with the Haitian people and the government. GOH - the government of Haiti got a lot of support from the US after the 2010 devastating earthquake. Life sustaining and life saving needs were met.

One of the engagements was related to emergency and humanitarian aid and the other engagement was to pursue a strategy for long term sustainable development in Haiti.

Many Contributions Made

A lot of contribution has been made by the United States to the political stability and economic prosperity in Haiti. In 2010 and 2011 the fair and free legislative and presidential election received support from the US and the GOH supported donors. In many governance areas, GOH has been able to lead effectively.

USA has helped in the efforts to combat Sandy and Isaac Tropical Storms. Crime, tax collection, overcoming shortages in housing, increasing transparency, expansion of health, education and basic services in Haiti have improved with the help received from the United States.

24 Hour Electricity Besides Other Relief

Ensuring that all the people of Haiti get twenty four hours electricity is also one of the priorities. Renovation of five power sub stations are in the pipeline and by February 2013 the project is expected to be completed. Efforts have been put in to improve operational and commercial sustainability by the US government via USAID, a funding service.

Providing immediate shelter to the needy and agricultural and business loans are the other priorities. Education, justice and law, security, human rights and providing jobs are the other areas that have been looked into by the US.
