Haitian Women asking for Representation, an Anti-democratic move

Before I go on, I want to make this clear: Yes, many women in the Haitian society have been raised with an inferiority complex as to men. Unfortunately, it was thought to them by their parents who did not know any better. Many Haitian women have been raised to believe that the man is God, unable to do anything wrong. They were also thought to accept almost anything from the man.

This time is long gone and thanks to the improvement in technology and communication, every single woman in any corner of the world knows better now. Economic issues or not; with consideration for children, family, society or not, they have learned that their self worth is more important.

Now comes the real issue. In order to correct past mistakes, some Haitian women organizations have been very aggressive demanding for women representation in the political sector of the Haitian society. Organizations such as: "Fanm yo la", MOUFHED, Femmes en Démocratie, SOFA, Yanick Mézile, Minister for Women and Jossie Marie Etienne, President of the Commission on Women's Rights in the House of Representatives, have been too aggressive in their fight and may actually work against an inclusion of women in the political landscape in Haiti

Here is why I am saying that. In a democratic society, competence, interest, liberty of choice and equal opportunity are values that should always be promoted. Having some women organizations wanting to arbitrarily impose a 30% quota at the level of the electoral institution, local authorities or senatorial is anti Democratic. I will go further to say this is one of the most ridiculous thing I have heard so far.

They can't go anywhere with this. How can you defend an anti Democratic Principle in a Democratic society?

If they are allowed to impose their 30% quota, what should we expect next?

Will they ask for 55% of the seats in the Senate or Chamber of Deputy to be reserved to women, whether or not they win in the election to reflect the Haitian population?

May be they will ask that the Haitian Constitution be modified to make sure that Haitian women become President.

Here is what I see: The women in the Haitian society have the same rights with men in the society. In Haiti, it's one man/woman, one vote. Both men and women are free to vote for whomever they want.

Here is a question: With about 55% of the Haitian society comprised of women, why can't they get together and vote for women?
