President Martelly was at the motorcade's front along with Stephanie Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism in Haiti. Both President Martelly and Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin escaped injuries.

According to Lucien Jura, the press secretary of Haiti White House, the Presidential motorcade was on a return journey from Citadelle Laferriere. The President, Michel Martelly went there for an inspection. The accident happened because the braking system of an all-terrain polaris vehicle failed.

The vehicle whose brakes failed was carrying Yvon Alteon, a logistics department member, two security officers and two members of Communication of Presidency. All these people were seriously injured. There was a little girl standing on the side of the road, watching the motorcade. Accidentally, she was on the trajectory of the vehicle that lost its braking systems and was injured.

For some of the injured people, arrangements for medical supervision and treatment was arranged at Milot's Sacré-Coeur Hospital while others were airlifted to Port-au-Prince for medical assistance. The rest of the motorcade including the President and the Tourism Minister were safe and sound.
