Through the collaboration of the Haitian Culinary Alliance (HCA), the Haitian General Consulate in Miami, Commissioner of Miami-Dade County, Jean Monestime, the City of North Miami and the Haitian Chamber of Commerce in Florida, Taste of Haiti was born. It shed a positive light on and facilitated the discovery of fine Haitian cuisine, influenced by Africa, Lebanon, India, France and Spain among others, to many a receptive palette on Saturday, May 11, 2013.
The HCA is plain on their intent to make this an annual event, and the support they received on this, the first staging, gave confidence the event could continue on for many years to come. Held at the North Miami Museum of Contemporary Art Plaza, the show also offered some learning with the food as patrons were able to view an exhibit at the museum; a feast for the eyes to complement a feast for the stomach.
