Trial of Clifford Brandt Postponed

On August 10, 2014, Brandt and over 300 other prisoners escaped the prison of Croix-des-Bouquets when about 10- 15 heavily armed commandos attacked the highly secured civil prison. It was believed that the freeing of Brandt was the reason for the incursion. The Dominican authority was informed of the escape and was advised to strengthen the surveillance on the border. In the past, once former President Martelly had admitted that Brandt's network was even stronger than the State, and he had to make a formal request to the U.S and France for assistance in Brandt's arrest. However, he was recaptured by the Haitian Police on August 12, 2014, in the Haitian town of Cornillon, near the border with the Dominican Republic.
