Bishop of Jacmel, Mgr. Launay Saturne, offered these details and others at a media conference. He shared Miyamoto Haiti (of Miyamoto International) would engineer and construct the Cathedral, and the redesign would be done by the Partnership for the Reconstruction of the Church in Haiti (PROCHE). PROCHE is not the only funder for the Cathedral project. A special commission was formed to raise money through community events such as concerts and arts and crafts fairs.
PROCHE is not exclusive to the Cathedral project. Composed of a coalition of Haitian, U.S., French, and German bishops, its unified mission desires a transparent and collaborative effort to reconstruct ruined churches all across the island. To this end, it permits donors to learn how their money has been spent, and makes certain building codes are adhered to to make the structures more earthquake-proof.
The Archdiocese of Miami has also been a main contributor to the Cathedral fund. It will help buy the land upon which a multi-purpose structure the new Cathedral is envisioned to be, will be erected. It will be used for meetings as well as worshipping.
The Jacmel Cathedral has been destroyed before by fire in 1896, and re-erected in the same spot not long after its ruination.
