Ambassador María Eugenia Barrios Aleman of Honduras is one of the three newly accepted diplomats to Haiti. She is a doctor in medicine and general surgery and specializes in cosmetic and laser dermatology, as well as venereology. She also serves as a diplomat to Haiti's close neighbor, the Dominican Republic, since 2010.
Aleman is joined by Germany's Klaus Peter Schick and U.S.A.'s Pamela A. White in President Martelly's vision in establishing and maintaining a long friendship between Haiti and the respective nations they are representing. They will also hopefully assist the country in improving the economic and social situation of Haitians for a better Haiti in the near future through a series of various cooperative projects that will most especially target poverty-stricken areas.
Being an ambassador is no easy job. It takes good credentials, commitment, and passion to be chosen. Ambassadors also have to deal with meeting the high expectations of not only their country, but the country they have been assigned to as they reflect their nation's credibility and identity. They are also one of the key catalysts for change and more fruitful international relations.
