Marigot has been the home of a new communal fishing center since early this year. In February of 2013, Secretary of State for Animal Production, a part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Development, Michel Chancy, along with the Secretary of State for Spanish Cooperation, Jesús Gracia Aldaz and Pierre-Guy Lafontant, noted agronomist and the Director-General for Fisheries, Health and Animal Production for the Ministry of Agriculture's Natural Resources and Rural Development arm, hosted the inauguration of the Communal Fishing Center (CCPM), as the second in a series of 5 such centers throughout the southeast.
Other developments in the town include the Star of Hope project that has been in operation in Marigot since 1998. The focus is on education, and the endeavor has seen to the primary education of at least 350 children, under the supervision of the town's Nazareen Church. Today, as a consequence of the 2010 earthquake, which didn't trouble Marigot much, but tore down the two-story school building, those wishing to continue their education do so under the erected tarps of their makeshift classrooms, anxious to not let the lack of a building cause them to miss out.
Also of consequence in Marigot is the opening of an Aquaculture Learning Center on Henri Christophe School grounds. Offering a necessary service, the center will give training on methods of sustainable food production.
