High School Directors get New Training and Computers. Eventually the program will train 203 high school principals across Haiti.

The government has set reforming secondary education high on its agenda and issued a decree to this effect, the training program being an integral part of its master plan. To raise the performance level of students so they will perform better on their year-end exams is the goal.

During the intensive course of nine weeks 15 modules will be taught including the Haitian education infrastructure, civil service, and public service code of ethics. When completed the Directors will be thoroughly assessed as well as required to work up a comprehensive report on the administration of their schools. The training program will offer updates in Information Technology and Communication, and each Director will receive a laptop and tablet to complete 30 hours in computer training. With successful completion a certificate in Education Administration will be awarded.

Manigat says computer training is to prepare the educators for teaching classes online, supported by Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Manigat addressed the Directors' concerns layoffs were impending because of poor student performance. He replied the state would not lay them off without first letting them prove themselves with the new training and tools: "These are the results . . . that will keep you or push you out."
