Retired US General, Wesley Clark, sees hope for Haiti

Wesley Clark, a retired US General, gave a recent interview in which he stated his love for the country of Haiti, and his high hopes for its future. Clark said that all the country needed, after being so heavily devastated five years ago by the earthquake which killed hundreds of thousands, and left well over a million homeless, was resources and help from those in a position to lift the country and its people out of poverty. This, he said, could be done by providing assistance to set up infrastructure and other services.
A visitor to Haiti since 1994, Clark has been doing his part to help solve issues in the Caribbean nation. He, however, noted that there was still much to do and that the system needed lots of work.
Still, while admitting the mountain is still a high one, Clark remains hopeful, because all that's really needed is the help to set up the infrastructure necessary for the development of the economy, the education system, and the health system. His advice is that the country enlists the aid of people and organizations with resources as well as compassion.
As a general in the US army, Clark holds the rank of four-star general, and was given the title of Director for Strategic Plans and Policy of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. His remarks were delivered at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting this year in New York.
