Risk of Cholera spreading into the U.S.

Is there a risk that the cholera epidemic in Haiti can come to the U.S. and start killing people?

Haiti medical problems

Haiti is less than 2 hours from the United States, when traveling by plain. On a daily basis, people travel by air and sea between the two countries. as a result, it remains a possibility that someone infected with the cholera in Haiti can travel to the U.S.

Do you think that it is a matter of time before the U.S. government requires that anyone coming from Haiti be screened for cholera? Do you think like some countries will start screening Haitians as they are arriving in their country to prevent the spread of cholera into their population? The island of Jamaica has already taken similar actions.

I don't think it's necessary for the U.S. government to start screening people arriving from Haiti to prevent a potential spread into the American population. Unlike an underdeveloped country like Haiti, the risk for a cholera outbreak in a developed country is low. The United States has a very good sanitation system to control infectious diseases. In addition, access to clean drinking water and facilities to properly wash one's hands after using the bathroom would make a cholera outbreak in the U.S. almost impossible.

Do you think the U.S. should order cholera screening for all Haitians entering the U.S.?

Do you think that people coming from Haiti should not be allowed to enter the U.S.?

Your opinion counts. Please comment

Non sense! How did the CHOLERA get to Haiti?

Like Melissa says "rather than speculating".

You should focus on why the UN peace keepers along with their friends Nepalese at the top of the river(the native known to this type of disease) refuse to take responsibility of infecting the people and cause more damage to Haiti than good. You should focus on what will be next for the families of those who lost their lives, the thousands at the hospital and when it'll stop.
You need to think and use your brain.
