Both destinations will land at the Port-au-Prince, Toussaint L'Ouverture Airport in the venture that has been described as a wonderful new opportunity for both countries. The new speculation has, thus, been celebrated by JetBlue and the Hollywood International Airport and the festivities were complete with a water cannon salute for the first passengers who departed on the inaugural flight #1709. The flight departed from gate F2 of Terminal 3 at just before 1 p.m.
The twice-daily flight from Fort Lauderdale will be on the airline's Embraer 190, an aircraft which seats a hundred. Details of the flight plan includes a 6:30 a.m. and 12:40 p.m. departure from Fort Lauderdale daily, and a 6:30 a.m. departure from New York. The flights out of Fort Lauderdale should take an estimated time of nearly two hours.
In a statement made by JetBlue president and CEO, Dave Barger, the addition of these two new flights to the airline's portfolio means an obvious boost in the company's destinations network, but, according to Stephanie Villedrouin, Haitian Minister of Tourism, the move is also a significant coup for the local tourism sector. Port-au-Prince is now JetBlue's 82nd destination, it's 24th internationally.
