The Pathology of Antisocial Behavior

According to researchers, such persons are immune to pain or physical threats and the restraints of a lawful society. Because of their immunity to threats, physical pain, and the consequences of their actions, they feel free to inflict mental, emotional, and physical injuries on others.
If these antisocial behaviors continue into adulthood, the odds are an antisocial personality disorder (APD) has formed. APD bears resemblance to another type of destructive behavior disorder, sociopathic or psychopathic personality disorder. Research surveys indicate 1% of females and 3% of males suffer from a version of APD.
Sufferers of APD commonly end up being sued, taken to court, or land in jail or prison. Prisons and/or jails contain a high number of these disturbed individuals among their inmate population. But neither a person, who commits crimes, nor an incarcerated offender necessarily has APD.
Research has uncovered a demographic predisposed towards APD, known as high achievers. They are also labeled under another diagnostic term, as compensated sociopathic personalities.
These disordered personalities seem to possess a normal capacity for empathy towards others. But in fact, this is not true. They can wreak social, mental, and emotional havoc in the lives of people drawn in by them. They are social predators and frequently at the head of their professions, in every field.
