Kevin Burns and Lucie Tondreau were competing for the Mayor's office. Kevin, who was formerly a mayor of North Miami, received 33.2% votes while Lucie, an activist of Haitian community, received 27.5% votes.
For the council election in District two, the two competitors were Carol Keys who captured 49.5 % votes and Mary Irvin who captured a modest 26.4% of the votes. Philippe Bien-Aime, a new face in politics, captured 41.3% of the total votes while the opponent - the former councilman of the city, Jacques Despinosse managed to bag a mere 27.4% of the total votes.
The 5 charter questions on ballot were also approved by voters which gave the following results:
Two appraisals in the city will be required before determining the selling value of any property.
Clerk and city council candidates are required to prove residency by providing identification card issued by Florida.
If a council lasting 6 months becomes vacant, a general or special election will be called for by the city. If however, the council vacancy occurs before 6 month, someone will be appointed by the council without an election.
Redundant language in charter will be cleaned up by the city.
All officials who will be elected through the election process will be, without discrimination, subject to recall.
It was weird that despite lively election campaigns for both council elections and mayoral elections, the polls started really slow.
