Charles Andre Dorismond AKA Bigga Haitian, reggae musician

Charles Andre Dorismond, aka Bigga Haitian, was born on 4th November, 1964 and acquired fame as a Haitian-American entertainer. He rose in the 1990s and he is considered to be the first Haitian artist to enter the Jamaican reggae scene. He overcame national and cultural barriers and created the way for a new genre of Haitian music.

Dorismond's stage name is Bigga Haitian. He was born to a family of musicians. His own father led The Webert Sicot Group who introduced Kompa, Haitian dance music. Charles Andre Dorismond lived in his native city Port-au-Prince for 8 years before leaving to New York. He grew up in the midst of a Jamaican community Flatbush in Brooklyn.

He had a passion for reggae music and was inspired by Admiral Bailey as he performed a hit tune "Big Belly Mon" at Manhattan's Reggae Lounge in 1981.Bigga produced his first single in 1989. "Haiti A Weh Mi From" became the most popular track on Haitian charts. It is played on Haitian radio to this day. He released 'I Am Back', his first full album in 1997.

After his second album, Binghi Mon, Dorismond has performed on stage with several artists. Bigga has shared stage with great reggae artists like Junior Reid, Shabba Ranks and Cocoa Tea. His second album's title song railed against violence and denounced the Taliban and Osama bin Laden. It came after the U.S September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

In 2006 Bigga signed a contract with Walkup records, a New York-based independent. His first track for Walkup is titled "Gi Me Da Weed" and has seen mega downloads over the internet and heavy radio airplay. Charles Andre Dorismond did a track in his 2003 album to honor the memory of his late brother Patrick Dorismond who was killed by New York police on March 16, 2000. In his artistic career, Bigga had managed 3 albums, 8 singles and 5 compilations by the end of 2009.
