Anticipating an influx of business travelers flying into Port-au-Prince, Arne Sorenson, President and CEO of Marriott International, feels certain the partnership between Marriott and Digicel can contribute significantly to Haiti's recovery efforts. He asserts job creation of more than 1,000-plus positions in the hospitality industry will actualize the potential talent existing among the population of Port-au-Prince and adjacent areas. He added together Digicel and Marriott can put the country back on its feet and in time re-establish Port-au-Prince as a premier travel destination.

Marriott will assume operating responsibilities alongside Digicel's planning and execution of the hotel project. The Port-au-Prince Marriott will be a 175-room, six-story edifice with a complete package of amenities for business travelers. Some of the creature comforts to be offered are five suites, an informal restaurant with a VIP section, a gym, swimming pool, and conference facilities. The hotel has been estimated to cost $45 million, expected to open in 2015.

Haiti's Ministries of Tourism and Vocational Education are developing new curriculums for hotel and restaurant training schools. With Marriott's financial support, they intend to improve the way instruction is delivered, to make hospitality graduates more job-ready.

Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, who has worked diligently to attract foreign private investment to Haiti, is gratified two corporate giants, Marriott and Digicel have committed to their vision of helping Haiti "build back better".
