Haitian passengers feel American Airlines exhibit patterns of disrespect toward them

What's going on with American Airlines and Haitian passengers at Toussaint L'Ouverture Airport after Isaac last weekend?

From what I heard, it was not a pretty picture at the Haitian airport in Port-au-Prince. I was told that many of our brothers and sisters who were scheduled to come to the US were unable to.

Hey, it happens all the times and every airport! so what is the big deal?

From what I understand, it was a problem of attitude and lack of respect for Haitian customers. Several people reported that after American Airlines had its flights cancelled to and from Haiti due to Tropical Storm Isaac, many passengers were left without any information about their options. Many people who live and work in the United States were not able to determine when they would be able to comeback to work. They also have the impression that American Airlines was not making any efforts to accommodate them as they were stranded at the Haitian airport.

Why would they think of something like that?

They probably have a well founded fear if you want to look at past complaints from Haitians toward the American Airlines carrier. When you say American Airlines to some Haitians, they quickly see a dominant airline serving Haiti but with ongoing frustration from passengers. Many would tell you that some of the personnel in the carrier that serves from Port-au-Prince to Miami , Fort-Lauderdale or New York exhibits an ongoing patterns of disrespect and some times abuse to the the Haitian passengers. Incident of American flight attendants yelling at Haitian passengers, verbally aggress passenger and literally push people out of their seats.

Major complaints about the airline include the death of the 44-year-old Haitian woman who had suffered with heart disease and had asked for oxygen. Other relate to the fact that American Airlines routinely cancel flights between Haiti and Miami and sometime address Haitian passengers at the departure gate with lack of respect

American Airlines has been serving Haiti for close to 40 years as the most popular airline at Toussaint L'Ouverture Airport. The airline has been stating that they are committed to Haiti and will investigate any complaint on the quality of their services

You are right about the disrespect from American A/L.
In 1974, I was going to NYC from Port-au-Prince, when a stewardess went over a Haitian lady to pick a container with chicken bones.

The bones spilled over the lady. I was across the isle, when I observed that the Haitian lady had to pick up the spill on her own. I got mad and demanded the stewardess apologized to the passenger.

The stewardess looked surprised and looked at me. So I had to remind her that this passenger is not riding for free on this plane.

American Airlines own the airport in Port au Prince.

They openly report to any party interested to file a complaint with the Haitian authorities that they subordinates the haitian Gov. which is after all the most corrupted government of the Caribbean, what else is new?

Want to avoid the mistreatment?

I have witnessed some of the disrespect exibited toward
Haitian passengers more than once at the Miami International Airport, and I had to interfere to remind those employees that the Haitian passengers were providing their paychecks, the same way other passengers do. I think that the Haitians should organize a strike against AA right at the airport, and take a different carrier when they
