Flood in Haiti

In the early 19th century, Haiti was covered with 60% of its original forest. Since then, the population has cut down all but an estimated 2% of its original forest cover. As a result, there has been massive deforestation in Haiti. Due to weak soil conditions, mountainous terrain, valley and lowland areas experience massive soil erosion and deforestation. In addition to soil erosion and deforestation, periodic flooding and mudslides have been causing many people dead.
