Gustave Pharaon Comes To CSPJ

Gustave Pharaon is one of the officials who have taken the initiative to develop a better judiciary in Haiti. Along with eight other officials, Pharaon has been inaugurated as a member of the Superior Council of Judicial Power (CSPJ). Pharaon, the Dean of the Tribunal of First Instance of Gonaives, was chosen by the Courts of First Instance of the Republic. He is among the officials who have taken the responsibility to bring the country's judiciary system to a higher level.

The CSPJ works by separating the power held by the three branches namely the judiciary, legislative and executive. Doing this would enable the judiciary to have independence. Pharaon and his co-members are given a task to screen and recruit judges and court employees. Aside from hiring them, they are also supposed to train and help them improve their skills and capabilities. This way, everyone who works in the judiciary will have what it takes to run the system efficiently and properly. A faulty judiciary can greatly affect the country and its people. This is the reason why the government is keen on ensuring the efficiency of the judiciary with the creation of the CSPJ panel.

The special representative of Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti believes that the CSPJ's establishment and the installation of Pharaon and other members are vital to the country's judiciary. Mariano Fernandez Amunategui said it will help sustain political stability, as well as power up the country's rule of law.
