Bassins Bleu Haiti's Pride and Joy

To access Bassins Bleu, you must travel either by horse or recreational vehicle. Once there, you can explore the falls by high-diving off an outcropping into the basins, frolic underneath the falls, or discover one of many caves made private by tall-standing forest vegetation. Several waterfalls make up Bassins Bleu, but three stand out as exquisite: Bassin Palmiste, Bassin Yes, and Bassin Clair.

Haiti conservationists have made protecting the beauty and integrity of the falls a priority. They have joined with the tourist bureau to ensure the spot is not overrun with tourists to preserve quietude and serenity. Tourists are advised to make reservations.

The city of Jacmel, lying below the falls, is one of Haiti's treasured gems. Located in the south-east area of the island, it is flush with many sight-seeing locales. In the streets of Jacmel, artisans display their wares for sale, made from natural materials found in the area. If you desire a cool-down beverage, a local can provide you with juices made from fruits found in the vicinity. They will offer these drinks free of charge, but do tip them for their generosity.
