His Holiness Pope Francis to meet Michel Martelly

God must, indeed, be smiling down on Haiti. This would be evident even if the recent appointment of one of the country's own priests as a cardinal were the only backing for the claim. However, His Holiness Pope Francis had a scheduled meeting with Haitian President Michelle Martelly on February 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.

The Pope officially appointed Haitian Cardinal, Chibly Langlois to the ranks of Cardinal on February 22, 2014 at an ordinary public consistory, which is the rite in which new Cardinals are selected by the Pope. This was at St. Peters Basicilla in Vatican City. During this inauguration, Langlois, who is also the Bishop of Les Cayes, was made His Eminence Cardinal Chibly Langlois.

On Sunday the 23rd of February, the 19 newly appointed cardinals celebrated their new statuses with their Pope at the St. Peter Basilica in the Holy Mass that was held at 10:00. The occasion is, of course, what drew the Haitian Head of State along with a delegation which had also been in attendance at the ceremony.

Monday, February 24, at 10:30 a.m., Pope Francis had a scheduled meet with President Michel Martelly in a private audience. After which the Pope also saw each of the 10 member delegation that accompanied the Haitian President. An exchange of gifts then took place between the Pope and President Martelly.

After his jaunt with the Pope, President Martelly met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who is the Secretary of State of His Holiness.
