Haitian Gang Leader Amaral Duclona In Trial In France

Claude Bernard Lauture, a Franco-Haitian entrepreneur, suffered kidnapping and sequestration, before finally being killed in 2004 in Port-au-Prince. The man thought to be responsible for his death is a 34-year old Haitian gang leader called Amaral Duclona, also known as Berthone Jolicoeur. Back then, Amaral was the leader of chiremes, and made several claims that he was working with Aristide in Cite Soleil.

On January 6, 2014, a group of armed men kidnapped Claude Bernard. Later, Claude was heard on a telephone call saying that the kidnappers wanted a ransom of $100,000 to be paid, upon which they would release him. Little Haiti Boy(14) committed suicide after killing older brother(16) over clothes

I guess that young children do not resolve conflicts the way they use to. I just remember when I was a young boy, I would fight with my sibling and my friends with my bear hands. Some time I would be the victime; but a lot of time, ending up with bloody noze, etc. and in e few days, we will be friends all over again. I woud never once think about usig knive or even worst a gun to destroy the other person's life.

I think kids now are more pragmatic. If there is a problem, why not solve it for ever? The same way they spend lots of time killing the opponents in video games they play frequently.

Haiti, One of 7 Countries You're Most Likely to Be Kidnapped

Haiti is a country where the chances of getting kidnapped on a holiday equal the chances of catching an on-time flight from a budget airline. The countries with highest kidnapping rates in the world are typically the vulnerable places visited by the defense contractors who provide products or services to a military or intelligence department of a government. Although the reported rate of kidnapping in Haiti came down to 162 in the year 2012 from 720 about mid 2000s, the figure is still threatening to allure tourists in Haiti. The presence of the U.N stabilization force could not give good protection to the rich Haitians, aid workers, diplomats, and, of course, foreign tourists. However, there are many other holiday destinations where kidnapping is as popular as buying a fruity drink or a local souvenir. Here is a quick look at the other top six countries where kidnapping is booming.

Haiti among Top Centers of Money Laundering in the Caribbean

The U.S. State Department has issued its 2014 International Narcotics Control Strategy Report. In it are named several Caribbean countries considered major centers of money laundering. High on the list of those countries involved in illicit money transactions are Antigua, Barbuda, the Bahamas, Belize, and Haiti.

The CARICOM countries listed are not exclusive to international drug trafficking and money laundering. The U.S., Europe, Canada, and Latin America are also major centers of money laundering activities. In other words, it is a world-wide phenomenon.

The report details the actions of almost 90 countries to decrease the manufacturing of narcotics, its transport, and use, along with money laundering and other blue-collar and white-collar financial crimes. The problem with trying to apprehend drug traffickers is the sophistication of money laundering operations that obscure what proceeds are from drug trafficking, and what are from other types of financial crime. Furthermore, financial institutions that handle accounts set up for illicit financial schemes are also prey to money laundering involving the sale of narcotics.

Haitian Court courageously challenged impunity in Duvalier Case

If Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier had somehow thought Haitians had forgotten, the recent court ruling that reinstated the criminal case against him taught him otherwise. The despotic ruler, who inherited the presidency from his father at the age of 19, spent his years in power from 1971 to 1986 building his repertoire of fear and tyranny. The era ended with his overthrow in '86 and a 25-year exile he broke with his return in 2011.

With his return came the memory of what he is accused of--not to the victims of those crimes, but to the forefront of the law and the news. Many in the nation became greatly incensed when, upon his return, the polarizing man was seemingly greeted with open arms by the current president, who even renewed Duvalier's diplomatic passport.
