Marleine Wesh to Run for the Gold in the 2012 Olympics

London, England is hosting the Summer 2012 Olympic Games, which will run from Friday, July 27th to Sunday, August 12th. Haiti has a total of nine representatives, five of whom have already qualified to compete in the 30th Olympiad.

Competing for the Gold in Field and Track is Marleine Wesh, who will run in the 400 m Event. Though not as taxing as the 800 m race, the 400 m demands a strong sense of timing to gain enough momentum during the crucial mid-way point, and to avoid over-taxing mental and physical energy during the last 100 meters.

Wesh's colleague, Linouse Desravines, will compete in Judo in the 52 kg. The other three qualified athletes will also be competing in Field and Track Events: Moïse Joseph, who will run in the 800 m Event; Jeffrey Julmis in the 110 m/Hurdles; and Samyr Laine will compete in the Triple Jump Event.

The remaining four Haiti representatives in Field and Track are still moving through qualifying rounds: Roody Monrose is working hard to qualify for both 100 and 200 m Events; Josué Louis, the Decathlon; Jonathan Juin, the 400 m/Hurdles; and Pascale Delaunay, the Triple Jump Event.

Currently, the Haiti athletes are in France training and competing in the European qualifying rounds, in preparation for their chance to compete in London, announced a press release from the directorate of Alain Jean Pierre, President of the Haitian Federation of Amateur Athletics (FAA). Watching over the Haitian athletes is Franco-American coach Emmanuel Jackson.

Haiti athletes in the taekwondo boxing, football, and weightlifting have not passed the qualifying rounds to compete in the 2012 Olympics.
