Ravine Seche, Haiti

"Ravine Seche" is a very small place in the region of Artibonite in Haiti. The town with a very small population is well connected by road to other important cities and places like Port-au-prince, Petit Garcon, Dugazon, Ville de Grande Saline and Grand Saline. Artibonite is largest of the ten departments in Haiti with an area of 4,887 square kilometer. The main cities of this department are Gonaïves and Saint-Marc. Gonaïves is the capital of Artibonite and Saint-Marc is a coastal port town in western Haiti. The area of Artibonite has a population of 107,397 as per 2003 census. The region is the main rice producing area in Haiti.

In February 2004, an unsuccessful organized rebellion group "Front pour la Libération et la Reconstruction Nationales" (National Revolutionary Front for the Liberation and Reconstruction of Haiti) which is briefly known as 'Revolutionary Artibonite Resistance Front' attempted to declare independence for Artibonite. The rebel group was an alliance between two elements-- gang of anti-government armed people and former soldiers of the disbanded Haitian army. When repeated coups and insurgencies were destabilizing the nation, the economy of this region was moving in downward direction. However, since the election of President René Garcia Préval the region is on a move and production of rice and other corps have increased.

The closest major cities from Ravine Seche are Port-au-Prince, Carrefour, Santiago and Delmas. The geographical coordinates of Ravine Seche (with correct diacritics, Ravine Sèche) are 19° 13' 0" North, 72° 47' 0" West.
