Boniface Alexandre, born on July 31, 1936, was the 54th President of Haiti. He served as the acting Haitian President's between February 29, 2004 and May 14, 2006.

Boniface Alexandre was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court when his predecessor President Jean-Bertrand Aristide was ousted by"2004 Haitian coup d'état". Thus, he was in normal lineage to become the President when Jean-Bertrand Aristide resigned on February 29, 2004.

Boniface Alexandre assumed the charge within a few hours of his resignation in a brief ceremony at the home of Prime Minister Yvon Neptune. Alexandre was raised by his uncle, former Haitian Prime Minister Martial Célestin. He trained himself as an expert lawyer, specializing in business contracts and marriage settlements and worked for twenty five years in a Port-au-Prince law firm named 'Cabinet Lamarre'. He was appointed in Haiti's Supreme Court in the 1990s and President Jean-Bertrand Aristide appointed him as the Chief Justice in 2002. As a Chief Justice, he fought against the incompetence and corruption in the judicial system and earned a reputation for fairness.

An abduction-in-progress at the home of Dr. Schiller Alexandre was aborted by the intervention of Petion-Ville police. Dr. Alexandre, whose father was ex-President Boniface Alexandre, was found by officers tied up and gagged. Former Member of Parliament, Eliphète Noel, accompanying Schiller, sustained blunt-force trauma and a machete-inflicted wound to his shoulder.

Officers apprehended two suspects at the scene, Véner Oderson and Pierre-Louis. Third assailant, Peter Féguen, remains at large. The near-abduction, reason for the home invasion, happened on the evening of May 11th in Vivy Mitchell, a neighborhood in Port-au-Prince.

Accomplice Andy Campion, a security guard, provided access to Dr. Alexandre's home after he had left for the day. The trio of kidnappers hung out, anticipating Dr. Alexandre's appearance at any time. He arrived with Estère ex-deputy Noel to find the suspects, who overtook both men. Estère managed to call police from his cell phone before being brutally assaulted.

Writer, economist, and firebrand Gérard Pierre-Charles was born in Jacmel in 1935. A radical, whose political beliefs were shaped by the government of Haiti's failed attempts at democracy, he co-founded a Marxist organization. In 1959, feared dictator François Duvalier caused him to flee to Mexico.

For the next quarter-century, Pierre-Charles taught economics at Mexico City University. He achieved respect as an academician and political extremist. He co-founded Haitian Unified Communist Party (HUCP) and waited for Jean-Claude Duvalier to be deposed, which happened in 1986.

Back in Haiti, he grew disenchanted with the Communist Party, and became an ally of Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who had founded Lavalas Party. Aristide was riding high on a wave of popular support, assuming the presidency in 1991. But military opposition ousted him shortly into his presidency. Pierre-Charles seized control of Lavalas and shaped it into an effective political tool, Lavalas Political Organization.

Boniface Alexandre the 54th President of Haiti assumed office in the year 2004 and stepped down in the year 2006. He took over the post from Jean-Bertrand Aristide and he was succeeded by Rene Preval. Born on 31st 1936, he was groomed by his uncle, the first Prime Minister Martial Celestin of Haiti.

By May 14, 2011 Haiti will have a record number of former presidents in the country. It will be the first time that happen in the history of Haiti.

Former Haitian President Boniface Alexandre is in Haiti, living a quit life. We recently have two controversial former leaders who made celebrity comeback to Haiti in 2011: Jean-Claude Duvalier and Jean-Bertraned Aristide. By the end of his term on May 14, president Rene Preval will join the list of former Haitian presidents as well.
