The knock-down happened in round three. Pascal managed to recover and landed some killer punches in rounds four and five. For the next three rounds Pascal lost ground to Kovalev, who relentlessly went after Pascal. By round eight Kovalev, still in control, managed to get Pascal on the ropes and later delivered two right punches to his head. Pascal went down and the referee declared it a technical knockout. Kovalev won 68 - 64.

Pascal harshly objected to the decision claiming "I was still in the fight." He admitted Kovalev was a great fighter but called the decision to stop the fight baffling and unfair. From Kovalev's perspective it was his toughest fight ever. He acknowledged Pascal threw a couple of well-connected punches in the fourth and fifth rounds, but he refused to let it weaken his resolve. Citing his mental toughness he said, "I gained control in my mind and did my job. It's boxing."

Kovalev, 31 and married, with this victory over Pascal retains his three world titles. His next boxing challenge is to face another Haitian-Canadian boxer, Adonis Stevenson, who currently holds the World Boxing Championship title.

Meanwhile, Pascal vigorously protesting the decision, has asked for a re-match. Kovalev says he'll fight Pascal again if his manager agrees.
