British Warship Royal Navy Frigate HMS Iron Duke In Cap-Haitian, Haiti

On 23 November, 2014, the British warship Royal Navy Frigate "HMS Iron Duke" arrived at Cap-Haitien on its way back from a six-month deployment in the South Atlantic. The warship had been deployed for "Promoting strong relations between the UK and the Republic of Haiti". The type23 warship was docked at the Cap-Haitien port for two days and received many dignitaries at a reception. The sailors of the ship took part in some community outreach assistance programs, enjoyed a leisure time and played a football game with a Haitian team. The visit is a goodwill gesture on the part of the UK to show its commitment towards the Africa and Caribbean and to maintain the presence of Royal Navy in the region. "HMS Iron Duke" is a multi-purpose combat vessel, carries a number of weapons and sensors.

HMS Iron duke is equipped with brand new 3D Radar system called RT997, a missile and technology system; it left its mother coast Portsmouth in last June. It carries a Lynx Mark8 helicopter, a versatile aircraft with a fighting force antenna that can locate pirates and illegal fishing, provides assistance during emergency evacuation and facilitates routine work such as the transfer of goods. It has 193 crew members on the board. This type of iron ship was first built in 1870 and this Iron Duke was launched in 1991; it is the third ship of the line to bear the name. The second HMS Iron Duke joined the Royal Navy on May 31, 1916; it was directed to the battle of Jutland-- the largest warship confrontation in the European history.

However, it seems that the concerned authority at Cap-Haitien was not properly briefed about the arrival of "HMS Iron Duke", as they took it on a bit of surprise mode.
