The Cannibal Army in Haiti

Following the restoration of the rule of law, the Cannibal Army became one of the most powerful gangs to be hired by politicians to bring down opponents. This was done by often utilizing some crude and uncivilized means to achieve their goal. It is said that its leader, Amiot Metayer, swore his allegiance to President Aristide and was often called upon to rein terror upon his political enemies.

Things took an unprecedented turn after Amiot was found murdered with three bullets. Each eye had a bullet while the third ran through his friable heart. This sparked a new mayhem characterized by violence and the seizure of Gonaives and other towns, actions which forced President Aristide to resign and flee from Haiti in February 2004.

This Cannibal Army was responsible for the fleeing of Jean Pierre Baptiste from the Gonaives prison in August 2002. They used a stolen tractor to drill through the walls of the prison, subsequently breaking Baptiste out together with hundreds of other inmates. Amiot's brother, Bateur Mateyer, took over the leadership of the army after Amiot's demise.
