Jonathan Vilma, Haitian American football player

Vilma currently plays for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League. He was born on April 16, 1982 in Coral Gables, Florida. His parents are natives of Haiti who had migrated to the United States in 1970.

Jonathan Vilma has a degree in finance from the School of Business Administration, University of Miami. He had schooled at Coral Gables High School before joining the University of Miami in 2000. After his high school he had received four scholarships.

Jonathan Vilma had a successful career playing college football at the University of Miami in 2000. His performance was improving gradually from 2000 through 2004. He was a reserve in all the 2000 season games. He featured in all the games in the 2001, 2002, and 2003 seasons. During these last four seasons, Vilma was selected in the First-Team All-Big East team. Vilma sealed his college football career as a finalist for the Butkus Award in 2003.

After college Jonathan Vilma was first drafted by the National Football League's New York Jets at the 12th pick in the 2004 Draft. He played for the Jets for four seasons before he was traded to the New Orleans Saints on February 29, 2008. At Saints Vilma starred in all 16 games. He signed a 34 million-dollar contract with the New Orleans Saints on February 27, 2009. The contract was to have him play for the team for five years.
