Terrible Truck Accident in the North of Haiti, 17 dead

We just learned that there was a major truck accident that took place Near Quartier-Morin. So far authorities have counted 17 dead .

We also learned the accident was caused as the driver was trying to avoid colliding with a motorcycle. As it turned out, the three individuals on the motorcycle are fine; however 17 passengers inside of the truck were killed.

Vendors aboard a truck, on their way to market their goods, were involved in an accident Saturday morning. They were enroute from Saint-Raphael when a motorcycle crossed their path, forcing the driver to swerve, causing the truck to over-turn. It happened close to Cap-Haitian. Of those passengers inside the truck, 18 died, while 28 sustained injuries, some of a serious nature.

Fete Champetre, Major Cultural Event in Haiti

Tourism has been on a substantial descent over the last 20 years. But one series of events, the Fête champêtre, continues to give hope to a struggling industry as tourists, local, from the Diaspora, and international, flock Haiti to witness the countryside festival.

One of the main avenues for entertainment to the 18th century elite, a Fête champêtre (a country feast or pastoral festival) was a type of garden party much loved at court. With pretensions to simplicity, the Fête champêtre was patronized by the well dressed, entertained by musicians hidden in the trees, as they enjoyed the beauty of landscaped park.

Cap-Haitien, Limonade and Quartier-Morin flooded

On the night between Thursday, November 8 and Friday November 9, 2012 heavy rains poured for in the North Department causing lost of several lives as well as damages to homes and agriculture.

The cities and towns most affected include: Cap-Haïtien, Limonade and Quartier-Morin. It was also reported that some towns in Nippes Departments were affected. It include Baradères, de Fonds des Nègres, Miragoâne, Petit-­Trou, Plaisance and L'Azile.

It has been reported that about 12 people became victim of the flood so far. This is e preliminary assessment. Most of the victims lived in the beds of ravines and were surprised by the flash floods. Several people were reported missing.

Quartier-Morin, A Small Town In Haiti

Quartier-Morin is located in Haiti's Nord Department. In Haiti's northern peninsula, it is a small town. In the Cap-Haitien Arrondissement, it is a municipality having around 24,000 inhabitants. De Quartier Morin and Quartier Morin Ville are the other names used for Quartier-Morin.

The 2010 Disputed Elections

There was a violent protest during the disputed elections that took place in the year 2010. Quartier-Morin hit the news when United Nation peacekeepers shot down one of the demonstrators.

From Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti one has to travel eighty miles to get to Quartier-Morin. It is located at 19.687655 latitude and -72.162345 longitude. Morne-Pele and Basse Plaine are the two sections into which the municipality is divided.
