Four Haitian Americans are candidates for the congressional seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek.

The four Haitian American candidates in the district where the population is about one-third Haitian, include: Dr. Rudolph Moise, 55, a family physician, lawyer and Haitian movie star; Marleine Bastien, 50, executive director of the Haitian Women of Miami and a longtime community activist; state Rep. Yolly Roberson, 54, a lawyer and nurse, and her ex-husband Phillip Brutus, 52, a lawyer and former state legislator.

This race could result in the first member of U.S. Congress born in Haiti

With all these Haitian American candidates wanting to be the first in the United States Congress, aren't they running the risk of loosing it all? If they can't come up with a consensus and select one out of these four Haitian American candidates for the U.S. congressional seat, the Haitian community will not have a true Haitian American to represent them in U.S. Congress.

There are efforts currently being made to bring the number of Haitian American candidates for the U.S. congressional seat to one. The candidates accept the theory of sending just one candidate to the election, but who? Who will be willing to step aside and let the candidate with the better chance run?

For that to happen, It will require generosity, understanding, leadership, and a sense of greater vision for the entire community.
