Sean Penn to support Half-marathon winners to New York City Marathon

A January story from Associated Press probably stemmed the decision of sponsoring the runners. A distance runner from Haiti was featured in the story. The runner actually represented the hardship that many Haitians in Port-au-Prince continue to deal with even after 3 years of the devastating earthquake that shattered Haiti in 2010.
The organizers of the half-marathon race that the first spot was taken by Astrel Clovis who finishing time was 1:19. He was the winner among more than a 100 runners who registered for the race.
10 spots have been secured by J/P Haitian Relief Organization of Sean Penn for the November 3 marathon to be held at New York City. Of these 10 posts, 5 are for the top five runners (including 3 men and 2 women) and remaining 5 are for the philanthropists and celebrities who are helping the J/P HRO to raise funds. It is also reported that sponsors will be secured by J/P HRO to cover visa fees, airfare and lodging for these Haitian runners. The J/P HRO group will also be supporting the Haitian runners as it will be training with Amateur Athletics Federation for the New York marathon.
