Wyclef Jean Solo Musical Career

Since beginning his solo venture in 1997 he has recorded 8 studio albums and produced music for the likes of Destiny's Child and Santana. To this day he is still making music for people to enjoy.

Wyclef's long solo career began in 1997 with his first album named "Wyclef Jean Presents the Carnival Featuring the Refugee All-Stars" or "The Carnival" for short. With this album he made a name for himself when it was certified Platinum and sold 5 million copies worldwide.

Three years after his debut Jean released his second album called "The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book". This included his popular single "911" which featured Mary J. Blige. Other artists featured on the album include the group Earth Wind & Fire, Kenny Rogers, The Rock and Youssou N'Dour.

In the same year, 2000, Wyclef was also nominated at the MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Hip-Hop Act.

In 2002, 2003, and 2004 Wyclef released his next 3 albums which were "Masquerade", "The Preacher's Son" and "Welcome to Haiti: Creole 101". The latter of which was unique because the majority of the music on this album was recorded in his native language of Haitian Creole. Although there were no official singles released from this album it included the songs "Secret Lover" with Mozaik Kreyol and "Fanm Kreyol" with Admiral T.

In 2007 Wyclef Jean released his next album called "Carnival Vol. II: Memoirs of an Immigrant". This album was recorded in Atlanta, Georgia and facilitated by T.I. The most popular single from this album was "Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill) which alluded to the song "C.R.E.A.M." by the Wu-Tang Clan and featured artists Lil' Wayne, Akon and Niia. The second single from the album was "Fast Car" which has a music video made with the help of a video game called "Burnout Paradise".

Wyclef's seventh studio album was "From the Hut, to the Projects, to the Mansion" which was released in November 2009. This album featured artists Timbaland, Eve, Lil' Kim and Cyndi Lauper. This concept album told the story of the fictional 18th century character Toussaint St Jean, who is also referred to as Wyclef's alter ego.

Wyclef's next album is set to be released on February 21, 2011 and is to be named "If I Were President: The Haitian Experience". This album is to have 17 tracks and feature many artists including Lil' Wayne, Akon, Barrington Levy, and The Refugee All-Stars.
