Haiti has great potential for tourism. It is considered a great destination in the Caribbean but travelers still stay away. There are efforts being made to improve and revive the tourism industry

There has been major improvement in Toussaint Louverture International airport in Port-au-Prince. These picture are definitely impressive. they show a new airport equipped with bathroom, modern bathrooms, a medical room to assist people with medical needs.

The new repair was completed recently. Haitian president Michel Martelly had the honor to reopen the airport on November 25, 2012.

Toussaint Louverture airport is also equipped with lounges and several retail stores. new Check-in counters, gates and immigration facilities are on the lower floor. The airport has 3 jet bridges, but most passengers walk onto aircraft from mobile stairs.

The prices of airline tickets vary depending on different factors. However, it can be noticed that airlines tickets to Haiti are quite more expensive than in other places. Many people wonder why going to Haiti costs them more than flying to other countries.

There are people who say that the reason behind higher airline ticket prices to Haiti is the fact that not every airline has direct flights to the Caribbean nation. Flights to Haiti are fewer than to other countries, making the cost of tickets higher. Other factors such as airport and international taxes also affect the ticket price, which tend to become more expensive.

Tourism Development Plan of Jacmel, "Destination Jacmel"

The Haitian Minister of Tourism, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, and the greater government council continue the efforts to rebrand the country as a leading tourist destination within the Caribbean and the wider Western Hemisphere. Past projects to achieve this end have included a push from the tourism minister for a Caribbean airline, and efforts to revitalize Île à Vache. Most recently they have turned their sights to the restoration and rebranding of Jacmel.

With its prominent history and the remnants of this still present in the 19th century buildings, some of which were badly damaged by the 2010 earthquake, the southern town, founded in 1698, has been informally considered as a World Heritage site. Its fame is tied to its historical involvement in the War of Knives, and in the creation of the flag of Venezuela.

Stephanie Villedrouin to Re-Shape the Image of Haiti

Minister of Tourism in Haiti, Stephanie Villedrouin, is on a whirl-wind tour of the U.S. and Canada in an effort to promote more tourism in Haiti. At the 14th Haitian Compas Festival in Miami, Florida, The Minister took the opportunity to showcase the Ministry of Tourism's (MOT) re-designed logo and tagline, emblazoned on T-shirts and sports caps, worn by the MOT representatives.

Accompanying Minister Stephanie Villedrouin was her Cabinet and the Regional Directors of MOT, who used iPads to show the tourist attractions being readied for an anticipated influx of tourism to Haiti. More promotional tools to motivate the festival-goers included banners displayed inside MOT tents, showing montages of Haiti travel destinations and landmarks. Between musical acts on stage, MOT displayed the new logo on a huge screen to a crowd numbering more than 20,000.

Actor Robert De Niro Looking at Haiti as Possibility for His New Hotel

Laurent Lamothe, Haiti's new Prime Minister (PM), flew to New York on June 16, 2012 to conduct exploratory talks with Haiti Consul General Charles Forbin about New York labor laws. As part of his visit, PM Lamothe was scheduled to meet with Oscar-winning Actor, Robert De Niro, to discuss his plans to build a hotel in Haiti. If the actor commits to building one, this would be more good news for Haiti, who needs to ramp up its tourism trade as part of the recovery effort from 2010's earthquake, which completely leveled the Port-au-Prince region. Recently, U.S. Best Western began construction on a luxury hotel in Petionville, near Port-au-Prince.

Air Caraibes launches tourist destination, a Discovery Pack "Haiti Cherie"

Air Caraibes has noticed that Haiti hides a number of potential tourist destinations. It is home to the most scenic views and the most breath-taking beaches n the Carribean. That is why Haiti's Ministry of Tourism has recently joined forces with the public and private tourism institutions in Guadeloupe and Martinique, as well as the commercial airline Air Caraïbes, to inform the rest of the world of Haiti's potential as a major tourist spot in the South Americas. Through the efforts of current Haiti Minister of Tourism Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin in arranging several negotiations with the public-private sectors, Haiti's economy is expected to improve as the planned tourism strategies are being expected to attract thousands of tourists from the United States, Canada, France, and even several Asian countries.

Ministry of Tourism Budgets for Tourist Police in Haiti

Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, Haiti's Minister of Tourism, has been promoting Haiti as a popular tourist destination in the U.S. and Canada lately. Now in another effort to make Haiti a comfortable travel destination, she is proposing a Tourist Police force to monitor streets and sidewalks, adjacent to restaurants, hotels, and other tourist spots in Haiti. Recently, she held meetings with airport o¬fficials to deploy an escort service to deliver travelers from the airport to the front steps of their hotels.

Villedrouin wants the Tourist Police to keep panhandlers at bay, when tourists are visiting any tourist spot. Why she asks, should tourists be asked to subsidize our homeless on Haiti's streets? The begging for money has got to stop, she insists.

Stephanie Villedrouin new Tourism logo in Haiti Haitian Compas Festival

Stephanie Villedrouin is the tourism minister of Haiti and has created a new logo and slogan for a promotional campaign just in time for the Haitian Compas Festival. She was really determined to change the reputation of Haiti's tourism industry. She felt people abroad do not know of Haiti's tourism. There was an international tour of promotion organized by 14th Haitian Compas Festival which was taking place in Miami. Stephanie thought of this tour as an opportunity to market tourism in Haiti.

She wanted to make people aware of the new slogan and new logo of the ministry of tourism. Minister Stephanie Villedrouin had T-shirts and caps written the new logo and slogan. She then looked for people to wear those T-shirts and caps in the festival. It was ironic that she showed out the logo and slogan before the official release on 1st June.

One thing to be aware of is buying tickets from third-party discounters. There are several third-party discount agencies that sell more affordable airline tickets. However, they are also unlikely to give refunds should you decide to cancel your flight. Your option when it comes to this is to buy tickets with a cancellation policy or to pay additional charge to avail of such a policy.

Cholera Prevention Tips when Traveling to Haiti

The 2010 earthquake that demolished Haiti's infrastructure robbed the poorest Haitians of what little they had, homes that were nothing more than hovels. Thrown into the streets of Port-au-Prince with no access to toilets, sanitation virtually did not exist. Having no clean potable water added to the misery.

Nine months following the January earthquake, in October 2010, a cholera epidemic took hold of Port-au-Prince, largely affecting those living in tent cities. These cities are still filled today with earthquake survivors, and cholera cases have increased noticeably since early 2012.

The United States Department of State has kept a travel advisory in place since the earthquake, cautioning American citizens to stay away from Haiti. With the exception of necessary business travel or humanitarian work, Americans are advised not to visit Haiti.
But others claim the majority of travelers to Haiti are not likely to contract cholera. However, they recommend a cholera prevention kit as a precautionary measure:
