A candidate with a minimum recommended TOEFEL score of 560 on the ITP (paper-based test) or 90 iBT (computer-based test) would be considered eligible to join the upcoming 2016 Academic Year cadet program. A minimum 80 score on the English Comprehension Level (ECL) may be considered in lieu of the TOEFL. The potential candidates have to appear either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Reasoning or the American College Test assessment (ACT). A minimum qualifying score of 600 each in mathematics and verbal portion is required. All potential candidates must possess formal sponsorship of the Haitian Government's Ministry of Interior and Territorial Collective or the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
The University program coupled with military and leadership training, would include any of the following eight majors: Marine and Environmental Sciences; Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Civil Engineering; Operations Research; Government; Mechanical Engineering; and Management. The United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) is one of the four armed Services Academies in the United States; the program as mentioned would include formal classroom training in subjects like navigation and law enforcement with practical summer training on general shipboard and aviation. All enrolling Haitian students will be subject to Coast Guard Academy disciplinary regulations. The enable graduates will be able to assume responsible roles in the maritime or government services.
