Yves Mondesir, Whoo Kid's, Controversial Minimalist Style

Yves Mondesir is a Haitian hip-hop-rap DJ, who goes by the name Whoo Kid, and whose trademark "Whoooooo Kiiiiiid", graces all his mixtapes. He was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens Village, New York. He has a long discography of mixtapes, dating back to 2000, beginning with his hosted re-mix of "50 Cent Is the Future".

He has produced his mixtapes under several record labels: G-Unit, Shady Ville Entertainment, Money Management Group, and Dream Big Ventures. Artists he has recorded mixtapes for, include rap and hip-hop acts 50 Cent, Eminem, Snoop Dog, Wyclef Jean, and Young Jeezy.

Whoo Kid's controversial mixing style has one music critic complaining his mixtapes are so simplistic. Therefore he can issue them on a weekly basis. By definition, re-mixes as they are also referred to, layer parts of other artist tracks to create an original sound, often with a motif.

But Yves Mondesir, according to the critic, sequences songs instead, interspersing them with the motif of a gunshot, screaming woman, and the Whoo Kid yell. Unfortunately, to the critic's dismay, high-profile rappers like 50 Cent and Eminem use this musician as their house DJ, so if you want to listen to their more obscure releases, you have to listen to his mixtapes. Even worse, to the disgruntled critic, other talentless DJs copy Whoo Kid's simple stylings.

In recent years, Whoo Kid has hosted Hollywood Saturdays on Sirius/XM Radio and inaugurated his video site Radio Planet tv. A sampling of artists this DJ has produced over the years include Young Buck, Tony Yayo, Spider Loc and Obie Rice, a recently produced artist.
