It was given to Digicel in the Vulnerable Communities division for its work in education. Digicel's foundation plans to construct 150 schools in the next year with 450-plus hours of teacher training, including mentoring and professional development, offered to 600 applicants.

The Trust, begun in 1997, supports public and private partnerships for social and economic welfare programs in South America and the Caribbean. It aims to make more available investment and job opportunities for powerless communities in the South region. For this purpose, The Trust also supports social integration and best practices for responsible governance.

Denis O'Brien, Chairman and Founder of Digicel and the biggest investor in Haiti's economy, spoke at the ceremony. He said Digicel is passionate about Haitians being able to raise their standard of living significantly, so they can look forward to a more optimistic future.

He added from 80,000-90,000 children are going to be offered an essential education under teachers with the necessary training and guidance. He expressed his gratitude to The Trust for recognizing the important work Digicel is performing on behalf of vulnerable communities in Haiti.
