When it comes to infrastructure, the capital of Port-au-Prince was number one in the list of countries with worst infrastructure. Mercer cited various contributing factors such as availability and supply of electricity, fresh water and public transportation as the reasons why the country was ranked that way.
Haiti faced a lot of challenges in the past. In 2010, a devastating earthquake shook the nation, killing over 250,000 people and damaging dozens of buildings and infrastructure. Thousands of people also became homeless. Haiti has not yet fully recovered from the quake when a drought hit it last spring. The challenges did not stop there because a tropical storm struck the country, not to mention two months of heavy rains that followed. Superstorm Sandy was the latest calamity to send the country reeling, destroying 70% of crops and shattering the houses of some 21,000 people. All of these are believed to be the culprit behind the country's tarnished image.
Based on the list, meanwhile, Singapore is the number one country with the best infrastructure. The Austrian capital of Vienna, on the other hand, was named as the top city with the best quality of living.
