It extensively engaged local community and upgraded every aspects of a good neighborhood including economic and social structures using pre-earthquake maps. The residents had redrawn their own property lines to accommodate improved paths and public spaces to make better use of available land. 'Katye project' has helped displaced resident to return in an improved neighborhood built up through their own effort. The major works under the project was comprised of-- (a) 2.5 km of retaining walls to stabilize the landscape, (b) Repair and construction work for 620 households, (c) Removal of 35,000 cubic meter of rubble, (d) 2 km of underground storm drainage, (e) five community water points, (f) Improved sanitary systems with toilets and septic system, (g) rainwater harvesting systems on shelters and (h) Built or rehabilitated footpaths, streets, footbridges, stairs, and lighting.
Other rehabilitation projects in Haiti should look at 'Katye project' as model for rebuilding communities on a solid footing.
