Canada has spoken, police force in Haiti yes, Army no

When you can't pick up the bill, you have to be satisfied with what is given to you. That is the case in Haiti. Canada is the latest member of the international community not to agree with the idea that Haiti should have a military force at this time. A spokesman for Canadian Minister of State of Foreign Affairs Diane Ablonczy, stated in an email to The Associated Press that because of the difficult condition of the Haitian population, it is not the right time to talk about a new military force.

Arnel Belizaire's Criminal record does not qualify him as victim

The affair of Arnel Belizaire put our president Michel Martelly for the first time in a

position where he is speechless. The reason is simple: his team did not handle the

issue well at all. However, when you look at the actual criminal record of Arnel

Belizaire, it is a shock how someone with such a record can become a Deputy of a

country.

Mob Violence In la Plaine and Les cayes over Petty Thefts

In recent months, outbreaks of senseless violence have occurred in Port-au-Prince and Les Cayes. Angry crowds of people have beaten to death young people they suspected of thievery, for something as minor as the theft of a mobile phone.

Saturday last, Port-au-Prince police reported cremated remains of two suspects and hanging of a third, by hostile bands of citizens. In La Plaine, police discovered incinerated bodies of two victims hog-tied, and a third also burned and hog-tied, found on Route National 2, near Port-au-Prince. In another violent incident in Santo, three young suspects accused of stealing motorcycles--in which one suspect escaped--were stoned and beaten with tire irons and set on fire.

What is the chance of Martelly to get his wish, creating a Haitian Army?

From what the "Haitian Joudalist" heard recently, not too good. The idea of creating a new army in Haiti sounds good. However, the actual result might be devastating.

To combat crime and to protect our border, President Michel Martelly is proposing the formation of a new Haitian army. As you may remember, the old Haitian army (Force Arme D'Haiti, FADH) was disbanded in 1994 by former Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Many people would say that the old Haitian army has been used against the Haitian people as an instrument of repression. They committed some of the worst human rights violations in recent memory.

Death threat by MINUSTAH to friend who disclosed Rape Video

We have a video of the interview between reporter Guyer Delva and friends of the rape victim. This is a voice report only. Five Uruguayan peacekeepers in Haiti sexually molested an 18-year-old man in an attack reportedly captured by a cellphone camera.

In the original report, you can see several men laughing as they pin down a young man on a mattress. It seems to me that MINUSTAH has not been positive all positive in their involvement in Haiti. They are at the root of the cholera outbreak as it was confirmed that a unit of peacekeepers from Nepal was responsible for the epidemic that killed more than 6,200 people and sickened more than 438,000.

Private Security Companies grow in Haiti since 2010 Earthquake

The earthquake of 2010 has left most of Haiti in ruins. But as the years went by, the country that has once been shattered by natural disasters and political turmoil seems to be recovering and developing its economic, political, and social sectors. In a very recent report, the industry of private security has become a booming trend in the country as the number of companies who provide such service continues to dramatically increase since 2010.

The number of private security firms has been rapidly developing at a rate of about eight percent per year. Currently, these firms are totaled to be at about 41 and comprise of 12,000 guards that ensure the safety of several institutions and individuals in the Haiti. What is the reason behind this sudden trend? The 2010 earthquake which left the country on its knees provided an increase in international relations where international biggies such as the United Nations needed to hire thousands more of personnel to ensure the success of their peacekeeping mission in Haiti. In addition, the ongoing political conflicts and economic inequality apparent in the nation has made wealthy individuals and families paranoid to the possibility of theft and kidnapping, thus hiring private guards for their safety.
